About the programme

Four-year full-time or part-time study, ending with a state doctoral examination and the defense of a doctoral dissertation. The graduate will obtain a Ph.D. degree.

How to apply

Entrance examination
Graduates of master's degree programs in Psychology, majoring in Psychology Teacher Training for Secondary Schools and, exceptionally, graduates of related fields of study may apply. The graduates of related fields have to demonstrate professional activity in psychology and their progression to the second half of the study program will be bound to passing differential examinations.
During the entrance exam, candidates must demonstrate knowledge, skills and reasonable insight into the field of Educational Psychology, as well as a very good grasp of the methodology of the field and a good command of the English language.
The order of candidates is determined on the basis of their assessment at the entrance interview, and the candidate can get a maximum of 100 points. The minimum point gain for admission is 70 points. The point gain is calculated as the average of the points awarded by the individual members of the admissions committee.
Important information for applicants
Applicants must submit:

  • study application form

  • a certified copy of the diploma and the graduation certificate

  • curriculum vitae with a list of professional activities in the field of psychology and a list of publications

  • research project proposal from the Educational Psychology domain


The topic of the project should be consulted at the Department of Psychology and it is desirable to have the prior consent of a possible supervisor. The written proposal of the research project (5 – 10 pages) should contain an explanation of the theoretical basis, the formulation of the initial research question, an outline of the methodological approach, and a general idea of the intended research. The project should also include a list of references.
In presentation of the project, the candidate should demonstrate that (s)he is involved in educational psychology, that (s)he has good grasp of the national and international context of the field, current literature, and significant research domains.
Admitted students become members of the academic community of the Department of Psychology PF JU and participate in its activities; full-time students participate in teaching practice at the Department of Psychology PF JU in relation to their project.
