QUALIFYING PAPERS

  1. According to Act 111/1998 Coll., as amended, the term qualifying papers is applied to bachelor papers, diploma theses, doctoral theses, and dissertations.

  2. Any qualifying paper shall fulfil the essential requirement: it must present original findings or creative output, solutions to the problem, new approaches, ideas explored independently or generated through the research methods and procedures recognised in the relevant field. Concrete approaches to the paper are stipulated by the internal rules of departments or the Academic Standards Committee which are available on the internet.

  3. If the qualifying paper involves literature search for the published results related to the theme of the paper, the author shall refer to the sources without infringing copyright, within the intention of Act 121/2000 Coll., and PF USB Dean's Ordinance No. 9/2007. The author of the qualifying paper shall bear responsibility for the paper not being plagiarised, with full consequences.

  4. The paper's layout and design, including its preparation for publicating, is regulated by USB Rector's Ordinance of 20th April 2007 and its enclosure.

  5. The completed qualifying paper will be submitted to the department where it was assigned or to the relevant Academic Standards Committee. The department will inscribe the front page with "Odevzdáno dne" [Submitted on] and add the date, signature and a department stamp. Concurrently, the submission date will be entered onto the appropriate space in IS STAG. The paper will be submitted to the department both in book and electronic form. The book form must submitted in as many copies as stipulated by the ordinance of the department's head or the relevant Academic Standards Committee.

  6. Qualifying papers will always be appraised by the supervisor. Diploma theses, doctoral theses and dissertations will also be appraised by external examiners. The number of external examiners will be stipulated by the ordinance of the department's head or the relevant Academic Standards Committee.

  7. Subsequently, the defended qualifying paper will be stored, both in electronic and book form, in the archives of the USB Academic Library. The handover is the responsibilty of the department's head or the Chair of the Academic Standards Committee. The department or the Academic Standards Committee may place the electronic or book form of the paper in their archives, too. Head of the department may decide that a paper is not up-to-date and will not be kept in the department archives; in such case the paper shall be shredded, i.e. destroyed so as to prevent its restoration and identification of its contents. Before shredding the book form, the department shall make sure the paper in question is readily available in the Academic Library.
