HeritageGame Results Disseminated at ANGEL Conference 2026 in Bologna

The University of South Bohemia was represented by Vojtěch Blažek and Matěj Vrhel, who engaged in a series of professional discussions with international scholars and practitioners interested in innovative educational approaches, critical global learning, and community engagement.
A particularly valuable meeting took place with Dr. Brenda Gallagher from the University of Galway. During the meeting, the representatives of the University of South Bohemia presented the outcomes of the Erasmus+ project HeritageGame and formally shared the project publication Gamification of Heritage for Community Involvement in Low-Density Territories, one of the key intellectual outputs of the project. The publication explores how gamification can support heritage preservation, community participation, educational engagement, and sustainable regional development in low-density territories.
The discussion focused on the wider application of gamification in global education, particularly on its potential to promote active citizenship, critical thinking, community participation, and meaningful engagement with cultural heritage. Participants identified several common research interests and explored possible connections between heritage education, global learning, and innovative teaching practices.
The meeting also involved Matěj Vrhel, whose expertise in geography education and curriculum development contributed to discussions on future cooperation in the field of transformative and globally oriented education. The exchange revealed strong synergies between the work undertaken at the University of South Bohemia and current research activities at the University of Galway.
The encounter represents an important dissemination activity of the HeritageGame project beyond the project consortium and demonstrates the growing international visibility of the project outputs. At the same time, it opened opportunities for future collaboration and provided an initial basis for preparing a potential joint international project linking cultural heritage, gamification, and global education.
