School Education as a Tool for Early Detection of the Invasive Asian Hornet in the Visegrad Region

Faculty of Education (University of South Bohemia) has started an important Visegrad Fund project joining V4 institutes in the fight against dangerous invader. The project involves researchers and education specialists from Czechia, Hungary, and Slovakia addressing the threat of the invasive yellow-legged hornet (Vespa velutina) in the V4 region. Through workshops, academic staff and teacher candidates will be trained toimplement school-based programs that engage children in public awareness, early detection, and reporting of this invasive species.

Tomáš Ditrich is the project leader, Dr. Jan Walter agreed to cooperarate as an expert within the project.

Project partner from Hungary is Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, namely dr. Balázs Kolics. Dr. Kinga Petrovicsné Mátyás agreed to cooperate as an expert within the project.

Project partner from Slovakia is Slovak Academy of Sciences, Plant Science and Biodiversity Centre SAS, namely Dušan Senko. Dr. Helena Proková agreed to cooperarate as an expert within the project.
